Camp Shonga

The emphasis here is on nature without losing luxury and superior service, creating the optimum balance between man and bush by participating in the interdisciplinary methodical study of interactions between individuals, organisms and their environment with a minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

Camp Shonga offers imposing views over the African bushveld from a lounge, indoor and outdoor dining area, splash pool and five individual thatched roof tents accommodating 10 guests, emitting a rustic ambiance and equipped with en-suite ball and claw baths, outside shower, ceiling fans, mini-bar, fireplace and private game-viewing deck with recliner chairs.

Guests participate in selected environmental awareness programmes and share in the vast eco-system knowledge of the field guides, while wildlife and the Big-5 is viewed on morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles, or from the comfort of the spacious wooden decks. And long afterwards, when the sun left orange and purple streaks on the horizon, enjoy traditional cuisine around a splattering boma fire under the flickering stars.

Camp Shonga is special, a primitive encounter with generator and battery system powered electricity and only two-way radio contact with the main lodge, yet, it’s undeniably a glamorous experience where one finds solitude in the arms of luxury.
